Wig lace that is showing the knots very easily and looking unnatural

Is Your Wig Lace Really Visible? How to Make Your Lace Front Wig Look Flawlessly Natural

Lace front wigs have become extremely popular in the last few years.  You have many different kinds of lace front wigs.  You have full lace, frontals, closures and 360’s.  Depending on your preferred style, you may choose one over the other.  But choosing your lace wig is only the beginning.  How to make it not look like you have a Tik Tac Toe board on your head is another issue. There are a lot of complaints, rightfully so, about lace wigs having the wig knots be very visible. Our goal is to dive into how to mitigate the appearance of large wig knots and at the end, how to avoid the headache altogether.  So stay tuned!

1. Choose the Right Lace

The foundation of an invisible lace front is selecting the right lace color to match your skin tone. However, instead of picking the best "color", the most common and effective way is to get an "invisible" lace so that it adapts to any skintone.  Most lace front wigs come in transparent, HD, light brown, or medium brown lace. HD laces are one of the most popular lace wigs because they provide a more invisible lace.

2. Bleach the Knots

For the most natural look, you want the knots where the hair is tied to the lace to be invisible, so they melt into the scalp. This can be done by carefully bleaching the knots. Use a gentle bleach and be very cautious not to damage the lace or hair.

3. Customize the Hairline (Plucking)

A uniform, straight hairline is a dead giveaway for a wig. Use tweezers to carefully pluck some hairs along the front to create a more irregular, natural-looking hairline. Focus on thinning out the density right at the front edge. Be careful not to over-pluck.

4. Add Baby Hairs

Creating wispy baby hairs along the front hairline adds realism and can hide some of that lace borderline. Use a toothbrush or edge brush to lightly pull out some short hairs. Style them with a light gel for a soft, natural effect.  Too many baby hairs can also be a dead giveaway as well.

5. Cut the Lace Properly

When cutting the excess lace, avoid a straight line. Instead, cut in a jagged or zigzag pattern to better mimic a natural hairline. Be sure to cut as close to the hairline as possible without cutting the hair.

6. Tight Fit

For a truly seamless look, you will need to lay down the frontal part of the lace so that there is no gap on your forehead. Some people choose to use adhesive (glue or tape), however, most wigs come with an adjustable band that may need tightening.  There are products out there that claim to be “holding” products that are not glue that you may decide to look into as well.  Just be careful when using any type of “bonding” products rather its glue, gel, tape, or holding spray.  Some of these may cause irritation or hair loss.

7. Blend with Makeup

Use a concealer or foundation that matches your skin tone to blend the lace edge into your skin. Gently pat it on with a makeup sponge for a flawless transition.

8. Style Naturally

Avoid perfectly sleek styles that can look too "wiggy." Instead, opt for more natural-looking styles with some texture or movement. Use heat styling tools carefully to add waves or curls as desired.

THIS IS ALL TOO MUCH!!

Now if you are a beginner like I was, you are probably thinking, “this is all too much”.  The unfortunate reality is that you probably bought a wig that said it was pre-styled, ready to wear and/or glueless.  Now you find yourself having to style it, glueing it down, and transforming it to make it look somewhat presentable all while having a simi mental breakdown.

At Styied, we have simplified the process.  When we say fully-styled, we mean FULLY-STYLED.  We offer glueless wigs that are customized to your skin tone and style preference so that when you receive our wigs, you are able to take out the rollers and pins, put on your wig and leave with the style you expected without having to buy 8 additional products. All wigs come with pre-bleached knots, pre-plucked hairline and pre-cut lace.
